A: Honor cords are for graduates who have participated in certain groups/clubs, or who are graduating with certain honors. It should be indicated by your organization (school, etc…) whether or not you need an honor cord.

A: Simply drape the honor cord around your shoulders like a shawl or scarf. It should hang down your torso evenly on each side. We suggest using a safety pin to secure the cord at the back of your gown.

A: A stole is a type of sash that is draped over the shoulders (instead of across the torso) like an honor cord. They symbolize academic achievement or participation in extracurriculars. They may be certain colors, have certain images, or contain text to represent the achievement.

A: Graduation stoles are for those who have met certain academic requirements or have participated in specific extracurricular activities. It should be indicated by your organization (school, etc…) whether or not you need a stole.

Q: What’s a graduation tassel?
A: The graduation tassel hangs from a graduation cap. It is a color specific to your organization and may include a charm with the graduating year on it. Every graduate typically wears one and moves it from one side to the other upon crossing the stage/receiving their diploma.
